Udon and Soba are typical Japanese noodles. Both these noodles have become part of the Japanese diet and lifestyle. . Both Udon and Soba noodles are very delicious and are served hot and cold. Well, everyone is aware that these two noodles have concrete differences between themselves.

First of all, differences can be seen in the wheat that is used for preparing Udon and soba noodles. Udon noodles are made out of white flour. On the other hand, Soba noodles are made from buckwheat. Well, soba has got a distinction as a buckwheat noodle.

Another difference that can be seen between udon noodles and soba noodles is in their thickness. While Udon is a thick noodle, soba is a thin and soft noodle. The soba noodles are chewier and have a nuttier texture than the Udon noodles. When comparing the color, the Udon noodles have a white color. Whereas the soba noodles come in grey or brown color.

These two noodles ‘“ udon and soba’” have different origins also. Udon noodle is credited to Buddhist priest Kukai. It is said that the Kukai priest who had traveled to China in the ninth century had brought back Udon's knowledge to his village. He introduced the soup to his neighbors in the Sanuki region.

Soba noodle is considered to be a traditional noodle of Tokyoites. The tradition of using Soba noodles is traced from the Edo period. Edo (Tokyo) people, who were considered wealthier than others began to use this particular type of noodles.

In popularity also, soba noodles and udon noodles are popular in certain pockets or in certain regions. In some regions, Udon is widely used and in certain other areas, Soba is served more. Well, Soba noodles are widely served and they are the most served during New Year's eve.
